How to Roleplay in Junction Memories
A beginner's guide to it.

Basic RP Rules

1.] You may only control your character. When roleplaying with someone, you may not control their character, even for a brief moment. Example, you may extend your hand for a handshake, but you may not assume that the other person took your hand. However, an exception to this rule are NPCs. These are characters that are for general use, although some might be specific to your character, such as relatives: mothers, fathers, siblings, etc. You may control these as well as your own character in your posts.

2.] There are limitations as to what your character may and may not do. Example, your character may not fly, simply because they are (probably) human and there is no fly spell. However, your character could float, because there is a float spell.

3.] Be realistic. If you're in a fight and terribly wounded, your fighting abilities and judgement would suffer. You might panic and rather than finishing off your oppent, desperately cast cure spells. Or, after a fight, if you lose, you might be weakened and need to go to the nearest physician to be healed up.

4.] Your character is mortal. That means you could die. Ways of this happening are: entering a battle after losing a previous one but before you are healed and fighting a monster grossly above your strength level (i.e., a SeeD candidate taking on a dragon). There may be others, but these will present themselves as you roleplay.

5.] No chat speak! That means that you type out the word 'you,' 'are,' and remember that plurals always end in 's', not 'z'.

6.] Please make sure that you close all of your BBC tags. BBC tags are the ones enclosed in [brackets] that you should use on the forum.

Forum Rules

1.] Accounts You should have one account for each character that you play. Furthermore, you should let us know which account is your main one, and provide us a list of all your characters, preferably in your signature.

2.] Characters You may have as many characters as you think that you can play, but please, be active under them. If you can play two characters reliably, but not three, then don't make three characters. Also, be certain to designate your 'main' account, or the one you post in the OOC boards as.

3.] Characters, part II Members can create any character their imagination can come up with. SeeD candidates and operatives are allowed, but so are non-Garden affiliated characters. However, canon characters, e.g. characters featured in any copyrighted material that is not your own, are not allowed to be registered (this includes characters from Final Fantasy and anime). All characters must be original.

4.] Advertising Advertising on the forum is strictly forbidden, except in the advertisements sub-board. And this board is only to be used to advertise websites. Please only post in the advertisement board after you've exceeded forty posts (including an approved profile). Advertising before this will cause you to have a warning.

5.] Flaming Material that is knowingly defamatory, illegal, abusive, threatening or harassing, is strictly prohibited. Use your common sense; if a post contains a personal attack on another user (OOCly), it will be deleted and a warning issued.

6.] Spamming Topics/posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted, or have the entire thread locked, at the moderators discretion. If you continually violate this rule, your account may be automatically banned without prior warning.

7.] Porn Material that is sexually or otherwise obscene is not permitted on this forum. Topics/posts containing such will be deleted on sight. If you violate this rule, your account may be automatically banned without prior warning.

8.] Cross Posting Posting the same question in more than one forum or thread is not allowed. Should this occur, then only the thread in the most relevant forum will be left open; all others will be locked and subsequently deleted.

9.] Signatures Your signature should contain the following: the GFs you have, magic spells you have, and any alternate characters you have. If you cannot fit it all in the 500 character limit, please ask for help in the Q&A forum.

Anatomy of a Post

Posting in the forums is a bit like novel writing, exept you only control a single character. You may influence others, but you only actually control one. And as for novel writing, there are some key differences.

Thoughts should always be in italics. That's the 'i' tag.

Spoken words should be surrounded by "speech/quotation marks."

Instead of indenting a new paragraph, you should double space between them. This is due to software limitations, as the forums do not recognize an indent, and, when they do, it can be difficult to see.

Anything out of character (OOC) should be written in ((double parentheses)). This does not include posts in the OOC boards at the top of the forum, but instead only on the boards below them.

Example wrote:
((Feel free to jump in!))
A boy of no more than nine sat on the edge of the bench in the quad. His gunblade case was open, on the floor at his feet, and the weapon lay across his lap. The smell of gun oil was prominent around him, as he held a rag soaked in the stuff. Slowly, meticulously, he cleaned it, ignoring the flux and flow of the students around him. Instead, he was working to completely reshine his weapon.

He was waiting for his father to come back for him, to tell him whether or not Garden had accepted him. His heart beat quickly, so he worked even more slowly so as not to slip up. I wonder what it's like here...I mean, they were so nice up front; no one can be that nice all the time... He shook his head, his hand stilling as he did so. It was no use worrying about it, after all. If he was here, he would be here. "Just let it work out," he whispered to himself softly.

Powerplay/Godmodding

Those two phrases, Powerplay and Godmodding, mean the same thing; it is basically giving your character more power than makes sense. God-modding is strictly against the rules and it includes:

1.] Controlling another person’s actions, i.e. another person’s character, saying what he/she does.

2.] Saying that you hit someone with a particular attack or not giving someone a chance to defend themselves. It is not fair to say all your attacks automatically hit without giving the other person to defend themselves. You cannot say your attack hit but if your opponent is fair then they will allow some attacks to hit, i.e. see number 3.

3.] Saying you blocked or dodged every one of your opponent’s attacks is hardly realistic and not fair. Obviously in certain circumstances, it is fine to say that you did indeed block every attack, example: a junior SeeD candidate against a SeeD Operative; the candidate simply does not have it in his or her resource to create an attack strong enough that the SeeD cannot block with ease, assuming that this is a one-on-one fight and that there are no other modifiers.

God-modding and power-playing are not tolerated under any circumstances. An offender to this rule will receive a warning and if he or she continues doing it, a ban.
